I (and just about every second person in the fashion blog world) have been lusting over the Balmain Studded Sandals for a while now. Also on my wish list were the Burberry Knight Crossover Sandals.

But today, I popped in to Novo shoes and found the Genevas. Probably a bit more Burberry than Balmain, but I really think they are worth the purchase. Only $69.95 too. A fair price to pay for a 'trend shoe' I think. Plus I do like that they aren't identical copies... clearly there is inspiration, but it's not a direct knock off.

Zuhair Murad Haute Couture FW 09/10

Ah Zuhair Murad. He became established in 1995 and in my opinion he keeps growing every year and will easily one day be known as an icon. His latest collection is beautiful. Think snow princesses visiting desert princesses at an annual convention.

Now the next two are also stunning, yet I definitely have a Dolce & Gabbana FW 07 vibe from them.

While yes, there are some vibes from others collections (Eli Saab, Gaultier, D&G) but honestly, for a designer who still isn't widely known yet, I'm still impressed. He takes the influences of designers he probably can't help to admire and still puts his own aesthetic spin on them. His fabrics are beautiful and silhouettes are utterly flattering.

I can't wait to see him evolve further and always look forward to a new collection.

This image is called Heel and is by photographer Albert Watson, taken in 2000. I think I found it a few years ago and it's been saved on my hard drive ever since. I love the super shiny legging and high heel. Infact I just love the image.

Now I came across a 2007 collection by Hussein Chalayan. It incorporates the high shine and high heel beautifully into the collection. I wonder if there was any inspiration from the Albert Watson photo?

Love the structure on these dresses. I'd probably wear the last pic the most.

Harry Potter - Indulgent Dot Pointed Review

Well it's been over a week since my last blog. I blame uni, it's always time consuming in the first few weeks when everyone pretends they will get all the readings done and turn up to every single lecture and study group.

As a reward for being so dilligent I went and saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on Sunday. Spoilers ahead. Though I doubt any of you are like me and only saw it 2 days ago.

So here are my non eloquent thoughts on the movie.

I cried for the lack of Lucius Malfoy (or should I say Luscious). Seriously, couldn't they at least weave him into a few scenes here and there?
Narcissa Malfoy could've been a bit more MILF-y... and more forceful.
Draco Malfoy's acting wasn't too bad at all. Quite emotional at times.
I realised just how short Harry Potter really is. Doesn't affect the movie really, but for the purposes of these bullet points, worth noting.
Hermione is growing on me - less annoying and I like her outfits. Preppy with appropriate dresses here and there.
I liked Luna's Slughorn Christmas Party ensemble. She pulled the silver leggings off quite well.
Bellatrix could not have been cast better.
Snape was the glue holding the movie together. Love him.
I found the movie to be fairly disjointed. Some parts were left out, others were over emphasised. Plus the horcrux bit wasn't really explained too well. It was like *poof* we're now in the middle of the black black ocean.
But overall since I am quite the Harry Potter fan, I still loved it and will no doubt buy it on dvd.

Anyway that's all from me. Hopefully I'll get some more fashion posts up here soon.

This clip changed my view. Every. Single. Shot. Is.Stunning. She is a great great model, probably the best of this generation.

Asos Order

My Asos order arrived this morning which is very exciting. I loved the shopping bag/post pack it arrived in and was really impressed that my jacket was on a heavy plastic hanger and was wrapped in dry cleaner-esque plastic. It was dispatched on the 15th of July and arrived exactly 1 week later. Only issue is I can't actually do the jacket up, but that's not a sizing fault since if the larger size was available I would've ordered. All in all, very impressed with the order, service and quality.

I've never paid much attention to M C&C before, but these fabrics really caught my eye. They reminded me of the childhood activity of 'marbling' whereby you would drip some food dyes into a tray of water and then put a piece of paper on top for a very pretty effect.

The colours and pattern works so well on the silks. I love the deconstructed feel too.

Last night I was browsing Tony Bianco and found this "Kodie" shoe. It's obvious chain stores take inspiration from the runway, but usually there is some creative difference. Personally I've always hated copies of handbags but I never really thought about shoes (well, I always knew I wouldn't buy shoes with red soles... that really is going too far) until I bought Sachi 'Blitz' heels which are inspired by the Jimmy Choo Glenys. Mine are patent purple though with no platform and I admit love them.

This on the other hand is absolutely identical. Colour, studs, heel everything... In my view I think they should've made some changes just to make it even slightly more original.

How do you feel about shoe copies?

My OPI order arrived from Ball Beauty this morning (http://www.ballbeauty.com/ - I can't recommend them enough!) so this should tide me over til August when the Spain collection comes out.

From L to R - Princesses Rule! Done out in Deco, Banana Bandana, Royal Rajah Ruby

1st coat - I could've left RRR and PR at just one coat... DoiD and BB were a bit weak.

Second Coat - Personally I prefer Princesses Rule with just one.

And finally in the sunshine - Banana Bandana in the end needed 3 coats.

I bought Royal Rajah Ruby as a Chanel Rouge Noir dupe since I hate the formula and although it isn't identical, it's certainly good enough. I actually think the India collection (RRR) is one of my favourites. Never had a bad formula and the colours were all wearable.

Princesses Rule! is a pink version of Hollywood Blonde. Absolutely adore both of them.

Done out in Deco is a little bit too similar to Parlez Vouz OPI (I really try and avoid similar colours at this stage of my collection - I'm up to 20 or so!) but out of the two I prefer DoiD.

Finally Banana Bandana. A runny formula, but I've been craving a yellow polish for ages. Much nicer yellow than the mustard tinged one from the Bright Power collection, BB is a really bright creme.

Dsquared SS09 - Double Denim

This show was a few months back, but I only just caught it on FTV last night. I adore the Dsquared boys and to me they can do no wrong. However when I saw the double denim come striding out I was a bit concerned. But then it started to grow on me.

Ok well maybe not this three piece suit of denim.

And I just threw this one in for good measure -This look is so my style.

Once again, not double denim, but an example of what one can wear with a denim jacket.

Well hello again three piece suit.

And finally, in my opinion a wearable take on double denim. I think this primarily works because of the accessories, followed by the tailoring of each piece.

I don't wear red polish very often, but I think I've found the perfect one. OPI Don't Toy With Me from the Holiday in Toyland 2008 collection. It is a deep blue based red with a ton of micro shimmer.

Confession - Sneezeguard is a Redken Addict

I've tried many haircare brands in my lifetime. Everything from Pantene, Garnier and Herbal Essence, (Actually one of my favourites when it was still in the transparent bottle with roses in the background - the new formulas are hopeless) to Kerastase (Yellow bottle first, followed by the green one as it smelled nicer, yet wasn't as good) and Tigi. (Best. Scents. Ever!)

Then about two years ago I found Redken. Some have been better than others (Smooth Down S+C just doesn't work for me) some have been fairly adequate but not great (Heat Glide) and others have been PERFECT! See below.

Top 5 Redken products:

Blonde Glam shampoo and conditoner - Grapefruit/orange scent, thick formula and my hair feels very moisturised after.
Outshine 01 Anti Frizz Polishing Milk - The latest addition to my collection and definitely the best anti frizz product I've used. Adds nice shine too. (Better than Glass 01 which was my previous best.)
Forceful 23 Hairspray - Once you spray this in your hair will not budge for 24 hours. No crispy after effect and I haven't found it to be drying.
Touch Control 05 Volumizing Texture Whip - I personally use this for bringing out curls and if your hair is curly or has natural wave, I highly recommend this over Curl Force 17. It can also be used to add volume to straight hair by adding it to your roots.

So are there any other Redken fans out there? Any other products you can recommend?

Judging by Google Analytics, I get quite a few hits from people searching "I can do anything I want because I look good in leather." Originally it brought people to my post on the Alexander McQueen leather jacket. Now however at least people will be brought to something relevant.

There is the video by one Mr Cody ChesnuTT - American neo soul and R&B artist.

This song follows the journey of a young man, rocking his leather and getting anything he wants. He has one hell of a poker face and ego to spare. Getting women is his specialty and if you meet him you're guaranteed stardom. Most importantly though, he just looks good in leather.

Zu Bridal Boot

It took me a quite while to find these boots. I had my checklist - Flat, knee high, round toe, equestrian feel, biker feel, detailed but not too detailed and ideally tan. Not too picky at all! I finally found the Zu Bridal Boot - Not tan, but ticked all other boxes. The grey is surprisingly easy to match with other colours.

Please enjoy this home made photo, complete with pink polka dot flannel pyjamas. Yes, I'll admit, I was excited when they arrived in the post and just had to try them on.

April Tatler - A New Take on Socks and Sandals

The theme of this shoot was old fashioned English eccentricity and bringing the outdoors in. What really caught my eye though was the beautiful and fine socks worn with open toe platforms.

I've never been a fan of stockings and peep toe shoes (maybe i'm just not daring enough) but this in my opinion is a fresh take on the concept.

The paisley detail on the gold heels (Gucci) is my favourite combination. I think with the right socks and shoes, this look is a definite possibility.

Will you be trying this look out anytime soon?

Banana Caramel Goodness

I was lost for a dessert one night so combined a few items and came up with this. Now this isn't the most enticing photo in the world, but I tell you, it sure was delicious - if you like banana and caramel. Firstly, peel 2 bananas and lightly dust them with icing sugar. Then cut 2 strips of puff pastry and wrap them around the banana. Lightly dust with icing sugar and put them in the oven (200 degrees) for about 20 minutes. With my oven, it took 18 minutes.

For the caramel sauce, simply add 50g of butter, half a cup of brown sugar and half a cup of cream to a saucepan. Keep stirring on a medium heat until it starts to bubble (about 5 minutes?) and turn a light golden colour. Pour over ice cream.

Add all items together in a bowl and enjoy!

Usually I'm not all that interested in the menswear shows, but when I caught the end of this one on the FTV I was absolutely hooked. These jackets are all stunning! The fabric was so beautiful with different textures creating 3D effects.

If I were male, I would HAVE to have at least one of these to add to the corporate wardrobe. If these came in female designs, they would be at the top of my wishlist.

First is an Alexander Mcqueen suit. Might be a bit shiny for day wear, but the structure is gorgeous.

A Gucci ad with my favourite jewel tones! Purples, blues and a smack of aqua-green.

A Viktor & Rolf striped mac. I like it when black meets white in the same item. If I was wearing this in real life, I might consider some pants.

To begin with, how lovely is the dog? Model is wearing a Balmain skirt from that collection. The shoot (photographer Mari Sarai) had a slight 80s vibe focusing on textures. If anyone wants to see any more, just ask!

Chanel Segway

Wow. I've always fancied a Segway ever since watching Gob on Arrested Development. I mean really, who wouldn't want one... surely they could occupy you for at least 12 minutes. Now my love of Gob and Chanel has finally merged... I present the Chanel Segway. Comes with a 2.55 flap as well as quilted handlebars and mudflaps.
I do however actually think I prefer the slim line Gob version. The Chanel seems a tad too industrial for me, but if I was working in a mine, or a building site or maybe going on a jungle hike, the Chanel's off roading tyres look like they would do the trick.

These dark metallic patents are grand. Rich with a healthy lustre, these colours basically go with anything in my opinion. Sadly I think the only item on the list to fit the budget this year will be the OPI but I might possibly save for the wallet since I always need a new one and am just in love with the colour.

This is the most delicious (and fattening!) slice recipe I've tried in a long time... Gooey Southern Squares. They are every bit as gooey as they sound.

Ingredients:
Gooey Southern Squares
2 cups digestive cookies (about 20)
1 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup salt roasted peanuts
1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
1 cup unsweetened flaked coconut, lightly toasted
2 x 14-ounce tins condensed milk

Directions:
Gooey Southern Squares
Preheat oven to 325 °F and grease a 9-inch square pan. Line pan with parchment so paper overhangs on two sides (this allows you to pull out squares easily for slicing).
For base, pulse digestive cookies in a food processor until a fine crumb. Toss with melted butter to combine and press into prepared pan. Sprinkle peanuts over base. Sprinkle chocolate chips over peanuts then top with toasted coconut. Pour condensed milk over coconut and spread gently. Bake for 325 °F for 55 to 65 minutes, until condensed milk is bubbling and a golden brown. Allow to cool completely (about 3 hours) before slicing.
Store Gooey Southern Squares in an airtight container for up to a week.

Gucci's latest power suits. I saw the show on FTV and these pictures just don't give the suits justice. The fabric was amazingly and subtley sparkly, shimmering under every light.

Love the androgeneous look as well. The 3rd pic is my favourite. The sunglasses and slicked back hair just oooze confidence.

Personally, I never really bought into the Anya Hindmarch "I'm not a plastic bag" trend. Which means I probably can't justify my liking of #94 (Andrew Mania) in the Converse (Product) Red campaign.

But I do like the red, white and blue, I could probably incorporate them into the casual wardrobe and although I have fairly classic fashion sense, I always love something that is basic with a different twist. Maybe the $100AU price tag and Anya Hindmarch inspiration is worth it after all.

It was only after I came up with the idea for a 360 degree sneeze guard in general conversation that I realised it existed, not in the fashion world, but in the food hygiene world.

Sadly my vision was more theatrical, plus I strongly believed it could be a fashionable statement that would take its form by way of a hat.

I hope this blog will give you a taste for fashion, media and all things edible at different intervals throughout the years ahead.
